Our Massage Modalities

What is a massage modality?
The different techniques and styles of massage. It also refers to the approach in which a massage therapist may take with a guest.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage: Gentle flow to awaken vitality
Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a non-invasive therapy that encourages the smooth flow of lymph fluid and the release of toxins through slow and gentle rhythmic movements. Because it improves lymphatic and blood circulation, it’s been used for conditions like sinus infections, swollen ankles, bloating, and facial puffiness. It also promotes overall body relaxation and stress reduction.
Swedish Massage: The gentle rhythm of release
Swedish massage is a tried-and-true choice for all-around rejuvenation. If you’re new to therapeutic massage, this classic method makes a perfect starting point for your path to healing. Through flowing strokes with light to medium pressure, you’ll experience relief from aches, muscle tension, and mental stress.
Deep Tissue Massage: Precision that meets pressure, for deeper healing
Deep tissue massage is designed to eliminate knots and inflammation in your hardworking muscles and connective tissue that cause chronic pain and limited mobility. It involves firm pressure and may also include kneading and stretching of the muscles. We recommend this ritual if you’re regularly experiencing discomfort and tightness.
Prenatal Massage: Sacred care for mothers in bloom
As you move through the changes of the second and third trimester, your mind and body deserve time for recovery. Prenatal massage uses a light touch to gently ease joint and back stress, improve circulation, release anxiety, encourage better sleep, and promote an overall healthier pregnancy.
Couples Massage
Experience shared tranquility with our Couples Massage, crafted to strengthen your bond. Our skilled therapists provide gentle, calming touch to create a peaceful environment, encouraging relaxation and harmony for both you and your partner.

Massage therapists are healthcare professionals trained in techniques to manipulate soft tissues and muscles for pain relief, relaxation, improved circulation, and greater well-being. In Ohio, all massage therapists are required to be licensed, so you can have peace of mind knowing our Cleveland massage spas deliver the highest level of professionalism.

Why Massage Heals and How It Helps
Our physical and mental health are interconnected; when one is imbalanced, the other tends to be thrown off balance too. Massage therapy targets the body and mind together, bringing us back to center and the truest, best versions of ourselves.
Massage is scientifically shown to have a multitude of positive effects on the body’s internal systems. The relaxing nature of the practice reduces stress hormone levels, calms the nervous system, and releases endorphins, in turn, promoting more restful sleep. Therapeutic massage is also known to improve circulation and lymphatic flow, alleviate acute and chronic pain, and support immunity and mental clarity.
Preparing for Your Sacred Hour
Your experience is as unique as you are. We believe in cultivating an environment where you feel like you belong and are we well cared for. Explore our recommendations before, during, and after your massage session.
Before Your Session
To get ready for your visit, we recommend staying hydrated and setting an intention for your session; perhaps you’d like to improve mobility of a certain area, clear your head for an important decision, or set down some worries you’ve been carrying.
If your reservation includes our amenities—the locker rooms, sauna, cold plunge, and salt therapy lounge—you’ll have access to them for up to three hours before or after your massage session. We ask that our guests please wear bathing suits in these areas and shower prior to use. We’ll provide you with a cozy robe and slippers to keep you warm and comfortable as you move from one amenity to the next.
If you’ve not added the amenities to your reservation, we suggest arriving 15-20 minutes early. This allows you time to check in, get settled, and have a moment of mindfulness before we get started.
Let us know ahead of time if you have any allergies, sensitivities, or health concerns. We’re happy to accommodate to ensure your stay is as peaceful as possible.
During Your Session
When you arrive, your therapist will talk with you to understand your preferences, areas you’d like to focus on, and any specific goals you have. Then, they’ll take you to a serene, private room for your customized, restorative massage experience.
Aftercare
At Sacred Hour, you can transition from your session at your own pace. Feel free to bask in the stillness of your quiet room, letting the soothing energy pass through you, as you prepare to return to the world a revitalized version of yourself and honor the clarity that arose during your journey.
Before you go, your therapist will share personalized aftercare and wellness tips to help extend your experience. We recommend rest and hydration when you return home to aid in your body’s continued healing.

Frequently Asked Massage Questions
What is the difference between Swedish and deep tissue massage?
Swedish massage incorporates long strokes with light to medium pressure. It’s known as the classic relaxation massage, providing an overall improved sense of well-being, and can effectively alleviate mild aches and tension. It’s often recommended for those first exploring massage therapy.
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage for pain relief. Therapists use firm pressure for this ritual, getting deep into muscles and connective tissue, where knots and inflammation may be causing chronic pain and restricted mobility.
What is lymphatic drainage massage?
Lymphatic drainage massage is a non-invasive therapy that helps move blocked lymph fluid and eliminate toxins using light, gentle touch. It can also improve circulation and reduce excess water. It may be helpful to those experiencing frequent sinus infections, puffy face, ankle swelling, bloating, or circulatory issues.
How long are sessions?
Session time options vary based on the service, ranging from 30 minutes to 120 minutes. Some services require more preparation than others or are more effective over a longer duration. For exact selections, please refer to our massage services page.
Can I request a specific therapist?

What if I have medical concerns?
If you have medical concerns, please let us know when you arrive, or even by phone call beforehand if feasible. We’ll do our best to accommodate and make you feel as comfortable as possible.
How should I prepare?
We recommend proper hydration prior to arriving at one of our Cleveland spa locations and to also set an intention. This can be a specific goal or purpose you have for your session.
If your reservation doesn’t include amenities, please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early so that you’ll have time to fill out forms, settle in, and begin to relax your mind.
